Josette Doucet

Criminal defense lawyer in Shreveport

I work alone on purpose. Every client gets me, not a hand-off, and every message is read by me.

I defend people charged with drug offenses, theft and juvenile matters. I keep the list short so that I know these forms, these judges' calendars and these lab reports by heart.

Most people I meet are in a courtroom for the first time. My job is to explain what is happening before it happens, and to be at the table when it does.

Cases I take

  • Drug charges
  • Theft charges
  • Juvenile cases

The first meeting

What happens when you come in

Bring whatever papers you have, even if they are crumpled. We sit down, and I ask you to tell it in your own order. I do not interrupt, and I do not judge.

Then I tell you what I think the charge means, what the next date is and what I would do first. You leave with a one-page list, not a lecture.

  • You talk first, for as long as you need

  • I explain the charge and the next court date

  • You get the fee in writing before you sign anything

Send me the short version

Tell me what happened and when your next date is. If it is not a case I take, I will say so and suggest someone who does.
